Dame Elizabeth Nneka Anionwu is a British nurse, administrator, health care professional, and emeritus nursing professor at the University of West London. In 1979, she became the first nurse specialist in sickle cell anemia and thalassemia in the UK, helping to establish the Brent Sickle Cell and Thalassemia Advisory Centre. In 1998, she created the Mary Seacole Center for Nursing Practice. Anionwu, a doctor, was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and is a member of the Royal College of Nursing. She retired in 2007 and published her memoirs in 2016.
