Elizabeth Peer Johnson (February 3, 1936 - May 26, 1984), known as Liz Peer, was a pioneering American journalist who worked for Newsweek from 1958 until her death in 1984. She began her career as a copy aide when opportunities for women were limited. Promoted to writer in 1962 by Osborne Elliott, she became the magazine's first female foreign correspondent in Paris. Later, she became the first female war correspondent for Newsweek in 1977, covering the Ogaden War. Her reports earned her recognition, but she suffered a debilitating injury that contributed to her suicide.
