Elizabeth 'Bess' D. Rather, born in 1940, is a co-founder of FORTH, Inc. and a prominent expert in the Forth programming language. Involved with Forth at the University of Arizona, she wrote the first Forth manual and advocated for the language in the scientific community. Co-founding FORTH, Inc. in 1973 with Charles Moore, she served as its President until 2006. She also chaired the Technical Committee X3J14 that developed the ANSI Standard for Forth. Although retired in Hawaii, she remains active in Forth-related projects.
