Sharp played a significant role in establishing midwifery in Georgia, founding the midwife service at Grady Memorial Hospital and the Emory University Nurse-Midwifery Program. She served as president of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and supported teenage mothers through the Yale Young Mothers program. After her passing, a scholarship was created in her honor at Emory University.
