Eljas Pohtila (1943-2014) was a Finnish professor and director of the Finnish Forest Research Institute. He earned his doctorate in agricultural and forestry sciences and held various positions in forest research and administration during his career. Born into a reindeer herding family, he studied at the University of Helsinki, later working as a researcher and leading various forestry organizations. He served as the chief forest officer of Lapland and the CEO of Metsäteho, ultimately becoming the director of the Finnish Forest Research Institute until his retirement in 2003.
