Ellen Alakanto was a Finnish textile artist and pioneer of translucent weaving techniques. Born on July 7, 1918, in Jalasjärvi, she graduated as a handicraft teacher in 1941. Alakanto was active during wartime and established a weaving workshop in Kauhajoki after the war. She studied at the Taideteollinen oppilaitos from 1951 to 1954 and returned to Kauhajoki after completing her studies. In 1957, she moved to Seinäjoki, continuing her work in textiles.
