Elmar Salmann is a German Benedictine priest and theologian, born on May 12, 1948, in Hagen. After graduating from municipal school in Hagen in 1966, he pursued Catholic theology from 1966 to 1971. He was ordained a priest on December 8, 1972, and joined the Order of Saint Benedict in February 1973. He earned his doctorate in 1979 in Münster with a thesis on Anselm of Canterbury and Alois Mager. From 1981 to 2012, he served as a professor of philosophy and systematic theology at Pontifical Athenaeum Saint Anselm and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
