Elmar Schmähling was a German Flottillenadmiral and author, born on February 17, 1937, in Bad Neustadt an der Saale and passed away on March 1, 2021, in Dresden. He served as the head of the Military Counterintelligence Service from 1982 to 1983 and then led the Office for Studies and Exercises of the Bundeswehr from 1984 to 1990. After retirement, he critically examined the Bundeswehr in several books.
