Eloise R. Giblett (1921-2009) was a pioneering American genetic scientist and hematologist known for discovering adenosine deaminase deficiency, the first recognized immunodeficiency disease. A professor at the University of Washington and executive director of the Puget Sound Blood Center, she published over 200 research papers and wrote the significant textbook 'Genetic Markers in Human Blood'. Giblett's groundbreaking work included the identification of blood group antigens and contributions to marrow transplantation research. Elected to the National Academy of Sciences, Giblett remained influential in hematology until her retirement in 1987.
