Elsa Desmond is an Irish-British luge athlete born on August 6, 1997, in Cookham. She is the daughter of Brendan Desmond, a former rowing athlete and president of the Irish Luge Association. Elsa studied medicine at King's College, University of London. Her interest in luge began when she watched the Winter Olympics as a child. As a teenager, she had the opportunity to attend luge camps organized by the British Army in Igls. She was also a member of the Royal Air Force's University Air Squadron until 2019.
