Elvira Enid Barney, known as Dolores Ashley, was an English socialite and actress, born on January 22, 1904. She gained notoriety when tried for the murder of her lover, Michael Scott Stephen, in 1932, a case that attracted considerable media attention. Although she was acquitted of the charges, her life ended tragically when she died on December 25, 1936, in a Paris hotel room. Barney was also a member of the Bright Young Things, a group of affluent socialites in the 1920s.
