Emery Edward George is an American literary scholar, poet, and playwright of Hungarian origin, born on May 8, 1933, in Budapest. He emigrated to the US in 1946 and became a citizen in 1954. He graduated from the University of Michigan and began teaching there in 1966. In 1975, he became a professor of German studies and the first editor of Michigan Germanic Studies. He has published works on Miklós Radnóti, authored plays including a trilogy about Iphigenia, and compiled anthologies of East European poetry.
