He received his religious education in Saturraran and Donostia, and pursued teaching studies in Valladolid. He also studied Psychology, Religious Pedagogy, Pastoral Theology, and Social Communication in Salamanca. Between 1995 and 2007, he served as a priest in Ibarra and taught Basque religion and anthropology at seminaries in Donostia and Gasteiz, as well as teaching in various other educational institutions.
