Emil Walser was a Swiss composer and folk musician born on July 8, 1909, in Gais, Switzerland. Growing up in a bakery-owning family, he learned violin and became a key figure in the Appenzeller Streichmusik, a unique Swiss folk music genre. Over his 35 years with the Streichmusik Edelweiss Trogen, he composed numerous pieces, mainly dance music and few songs, often writing the lyrics himself. Walser was known for his emphasis on educating young musicians, and even after his passing on February 16, 1972, his music continues to be performed.
