Emilios T. Harlaftis (March 29, 1965 – February 13, 2005) was a Greek astrophysicist born in Kiatto, Corinthia. He graduated from the University of Athens in 1987 and earned his PhD from the University of Oxford in 1991. Harlaftis worked at the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes and the National Observatory of Athens. He was the principal investigator for the Helmos Observatory project. His significant scientific contribution was the discovery of spiral wave patterns in accretion disks. He died in a mountaineering accident in 2005, shortly before his 40th birthday.
