He specialized in French language and literature at Tbilisi State University, graduating in 1964. A prominent figure in French literature, he has translated works of several renowned authors, including Molière, Guy de Maupassant, and Albert Camus. He has published two poetry collections and two novellas in French. He received the 2009 Saba Literary Prize for best translation and was honored as an Officer of the French Order of Academic Palms in 2001.
