Dr. Erdoğan Okyay was a prominent composer of contemporary Turkish music, instrumental in developing music education principles unique to Turkish school music in collaboration with other educators. He began working as a piano and school music teacher at Gazi Education Institute in 1961. Okyay co-produced children's music programs for TRT Ankara Television starting in 1971. He pursued his doctorate in Music Ethnology at Free University of Berlin under Professor Kurt Reinhard after receiving a scholarship from the Humboldt Foundation in 1973. Okyay played a key role in establishing the oldest musicology department in Turkey.
