Ergün Toğrol is a prominent Turkish academic and author born in Ankara on March 6, 1933. He completed his high school education at Ankara Atatürk High School in 1950 and graduated from Istanbul Technical University (ITU) with a degree in civil engineering in 1957, followed by a master's degree from Cambridge in 1960. He earned a PhD in 1963 and became an associate professor in geotechnical engineering at ITU in 1967. He served as rector of Boğaziçi University from 1982 to 1992 and returned to ITU until his retirement in 2000.
