Eric James Bessell was an Australian politician and pastoralist, born on June 6, 1923, in Launceston, Tasmania. He served as a private in the Australian Army during World War II. Bessell was involved in politics as the President of the Tasmanian Liberal Party in 1966 and 1973. He was elected to the Australian Senate as a Liberal Senator for Tasmania in 1974 but faced defeat in 1975 when he was demoted on the ballot. He passed away on March 10, 1979.
