Tragically, he was fatally stabbed on December 29, 2009, at Ottawa Civic Hospital, with his murder leading to the conviction of former RCMP Officer Kevin Gregson. Czapnik's family includes a sister residing in Poland and his parents, Stanislaw and Josefa.
