Sir Eric Gardner Turner CBE was a prominent British classical philologist and papyrologist, born on February 26, 1911, in Sheffield, England. He studied at Magdalen College, Oxford and taught at the University of Aberdeen and later at University College London. During World War II, he served in the Naval Intelligence Division at Bletchley Park. He contributed significantly to the study of ancient Greek manuscripts, particularly the Hibeh and Oxyrhynchus Papyri. His notable achievements include being appointed CBE in 1975 and being inducted into various academic societies. He passed away on April 20, 1983.
