Eric Stanley Lock was a British Royal Air Force fighter pilot and flying ace during the Second World War. Born in Shrewsbury in 1919, he joined the RAF in 1939 and became the most successful Allied pilot in the Battle of Britain, claiming 21 German aircraft. With a total of 26 victories, Lock served primarily on the Channel Front, earning a reputation despite his short stature, which led to his nickname, 'Sawn Off Lockie.' Unfortunately, he was posted missing in action after disappearing during a mission in 1941.
