After beginning his career in journalism, he transitioned to writing full-time, co-creating the radio series 'Beyond Our Ken' and writing for various TV shows and radio sitcoms. He collaborated with his son Andy on the sitcom 'Minor Adjustment'. Merriman passed away at the age of 78 and was cremated in Golders Green.
