Erich Martensen is a German mathematician born on November 5, 1927, in Schleswig. He studied mathematics and physics in Kiel and Göttingen, earning his doctorate in 1954. Martensen worked at the Max Planck Society from 1954 to 1963 and became a professor at TH Darmstadt in 1964, later moving to the University of Karlsruhe in 1972. His research interests include applied analysis, potential theory, mathematical physics, and numerical mathematics. He has also authored a four-volume textbook on analysis.
