In 1985, he was sentenced for smuggling 450,000 bottles of spirits and 50,000 bottles of wine from abroad to Norway, a significant case at the time. He received a prison sentence of three years and six months in 1991 for producing and selling homemade spirits. In the mid-2000s, he was convicted of unintentional manslaughter related to the methanol case, receiving an eight-year sentence. He was arrested in 2012 after police chases in Sweden and Norway.
