He has been the editor-in-chief of the member magazine of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, Sveriges Natur, since 2021. Previously, he served as editor-in-chief for OmVärlden. Under his leadership, OmVärlden transitioned to a fully digital magazine. Halkjær has contributed to various publications, worked as an international reporter, and held editorial roles in organizations like the Red Cross. He has been the chairman of Reporters Without Borders Sweden since March 2019.
