Erik Maes is a former Dutch footballer born on May 2, 1972, in Maastricht. He played as a forward and was known as Maes in Japan. He joined Albirex Niigata in 1996 under coach Frans van Balkom, contributing to two consecutive North Shinetsu League titles. In 1996, he was the league's top scorer and top assist provider. Unfortunately, injuries plagued his career, and he left the club at the end of the 1997 season.
