He graduated from Roskilde Cathedral School in 1932 and obtained a master's degree in engineering in 1939. He worked at the International Patent Bureau and DSB, advancing to chief engineer by 1958 and department head by 1964. He became a member of the Academy of Technical Sciences in 1965 and was honored with the Dannebrog and Vasa orders. He married Rigmor Haugbølle on April 1, 1939.
