Erland A. Fagermoen was born on June 24, 1942, in Sørumsand, Akershus, Norway. He served as mayor of Balestrand municipality from 2003 to 2007 and represented the Christian Democratic Party. Fagermoen was also a municipal council representative for 20 years and sat in the county council of Sogn og Fjordane for 16 years. He grew up in Fredrikstad and moved to Balestrand in the 1970s, where he and his wife took over a small farm and operated a campsite while engaging in fruit farming. He was involved in Christian work as well.
