Ernesta G. Procope (1923-2021) was a prominent American investment banker and insurance executive known for founding E. G. Bowman, Inc., the largest insurance agency led by a Black woman. Born in Brooklyn, she demonstrated musical talent early by performing at Carnegie Hall. In 1977, her firm became the first African American-owned business on Wall Street. Procope was also the chairperson of Adelphi University's board but resigned due to conflict of interest. She received the Woman of the Year Award from First Lady Pat Nixon in 1972 and passed away at 98.
