Ernestine Sharon Walkingstick (1937-1999) was a notable American Registered Nurse and member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. She was instrumental in founding the Cherokee Hospital in Robbinsville and the Ear, Nose, and Throat clinic at Cherokee Indian Hospital. Additionally, she established the first domestic violence shelter in the region, which was named after her. Walkingstick was actively involved in advocating for the Cherokee community and served as president of the Native American Indian Women’s Association.
