Ernesto S. Mata was a notable Filipino General and served as the 15th Secretary of National Defense from January 21, 1967, to February 3, 1970. He made history as the only retired officer recalled to serve as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Prior to his death in March 2012, Mata was recognized as the last living graduate of the Philippine Constabulary Academy, now known as the Philippine Military Academy, which he attended in 1935. He was born on November 7, 1915.
