Ernst Bier is a German jazz drummer born on January 12, 1951, in Barntrup, North Rhine-Westphalia. He studied at the Swiss Jazz School from 1976 to 1978 and furthered his education in New York City with notable drummers. He was a member of several bands including Just Friends and has recorded with various artists. Since 1984, he has been part of Perry Robinson's band. He has lived in Cologne and Berlin, where he co-led a quartet. Bier has been featured in a television portrait in 1996.
