Ernst Hilding Andersson was a Swedish aviation engineer in the Swedish Navy and a spy for the Soviet Union, known as 'the naval spy'. In 1949, Swedish intelligence began monitoring Soviet diplomat Nicolai P. Orlov, discovering connections to Andersson in 1951. He provided extensive information about the Swedish Navy, leading to his arrest and life imprisonment for espionage in September 1951. Released in the 1960s, Andersson was ideologically motivated and received 4,530 Swedish kronor from Soviet intelligence, which did not fully cover his expenses for photographic equipment.
