Ernst Ludwig Kramar was a German electrical engineer and inventor born on June 15, 1902, in Kladno, Austria-Hungary. He was a pioneer in radio navigation, known for developing the first instrument landing system (ILS) based on ultrahigh frequency (UHF) with the Lorenz beacon in the 1930s. Kramar also created the Consol flight navigation method under the names 'Elektra' and 'Sonne' during his time at C. Lorenz AG, which was successfully implemented in airports worldwide.
