Esko Olavi Mikkola is a former Finnish javelin thrower born on February 14, 1975, in Tampere. He competed for the Arizona Wildcats, winning two NCAA DI titles and a silver medal at the 2003 Summer Universiade. Mikkola represented Finland at the 2004 Olympics, finishing eleventh. With a personal best of 84.27 metres, achieved in 2004, he also has a background in wrestling and is now involved in bobsledding. Mikkola earned a Ph.D. and founded the company Alphacore, currently serving as its CEO in Phoenix, Arizona. He has obtained U.S. citizenship.
