Esko Antero Nikkilä (1926-1986) was a Finnish professor of internal medicine and chief physician renowned for his contributions as a researcher, teacher, and practitioner. He served as a docent from 1958 to 1962 and as a professor from 1962 until his death. Nikkilä's research focused on lipid metabolism, diabetes, and the effects of alcohol on metabolism. He guided many doctoral theses and was pivotal in medical education. Involved in various medical organizations, he received the Matti Äyräpään award in 1971. Nikkilä died in a traffic accident shortly before his 60th birthday.
