Esko Valsta was a Finnish cellist born on August 26, 1924, in Uusikaupunki. He studied under Yrjö Selin in Helsinki and Maurice Maréchal in Paris. Valsta became a member of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in 1950 and served as a solo cellist starting in 1961. He performed internationally in concerts and as a soloist before retiring in 1974. His brother is pianist Tapani Valsta. Valsta passed away on September 6, 2008.
