Ettore Asticelli was an Italian poet who was born in Lodi on July 8, 1942, and died in the same city on February 7, 2001. He was the fourth of five brothers, born into a working-class family from the Marche region. Asticelli's early life was marked by poverty and a difficult family dynamic. He was a sensitive and reserved child who felt alienated from his family and the fascist values that were prevalent at the time. His early poetry reflected this sense of isolation and his desire for revenge. Asticelli's poetry evolved over time, becoming more disillusioned and reflecting the styles of avant-garde poets such as Alda Merini and Giorgio Manganelli. He published two collections of poetry, Ali di ferro, antologia di un'espiazione (1979) and Tabulati (1986), both published by the small publishing house Gisismondi. Asticelli suffered from depression and psychosis for much of his life. He died alone after a three-year battle with cancer. His work is now being rediscovered by scholars, who are recognizing its unique and powerful voice.
