Thomas Euclid Rains was an American politician, born on November 24, 1920, in DeKalb County, Alabama. He became blind at age five and graduated from the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in 1941, later attending Jacksonville State University. Rains served as a Democratic member of the Alabama House of Representatives for the 26th district from 1978 until 1990. He authored a memoir titled 'I'm Not Afraid of the Dark'. Rains tragically died in a car accident on August 27, 2000, at the age of 79, alongside his wife.
