Eufrosinia Kersnovskaya (1908-1994) was a Russian woman who spent twelve years in Soviet Gulags. She documented her experiences in twelve notebooks comprising 2.2 million characters and accompanied by 680 illustrations. Her work, titled 'Quant costa una persona' (Сколько стоит человек), had three copies circulated among friends as samizdat in 1968. The first fragments were published in 1990 in Russian magazines and in The Observer. The complete text was later published in six volumes in 2001 in Russia.
