Karl Eugen Viehof was a German entrepreneur born on February 28, 1916, in Mönchengladbach. In 1962, he co-founded the wholesale business Selgross with his brother-in-law Gerhard Ackermans, which later developed into Allkauf department stores. In 1998, Viehof sold his retail group to the Metro Group for approximately 2.4 billion Marks. He established the Vibro-Beteiligungsgesellschaft from the sale proceeds. Viehof was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 1985 for his entrepreneurial achievements. His sons founded the Eugen Viehof Foundation in 1996, which honors German writers annually.
