Eugène Ionesco was a Romanian-born French playwright, born on November 26, 1909, and died on March 28, 1994. He is recognized as one of the most significant figures in the Theatre of the Absurd. Ionesco wrote numerous absurdist plays reflecting the madness of everyday life, including 'La cantatrice chauve' (1950) and 'Rhinocéros' (1959). Initially, his work faced little enthusiasm, but by the 1970s, he gained popularity. Ionesco also wrote novels and painted later in life.
