Eugene Shanzer was a Soviet geologist born on December 13, 1905, in Moscow. He obtained his Doctorate in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences in 1948 and became a professor in 1950. He specialized in the geology of Quaternary deposits and the classification of genetic types of continental sediments. Shanzer served as the head of the Historical Geology Department at MGRI and was a senior researcher at the Geological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1959. He also held various leadership roles in geological commissions.
