Eugeni Asensio Aguirre, born in Barcelona in 1937, is a retired Catalan water polo player and referee. He is recognized as the most renowned Spanish water polo referee internationally, beginning his career in the 1950s with the Club Natació Barcelona. In 1969, he started officiating at the Six Nations Tournament in Sweden, and eventually refereed six Olympic Games, including finals in 1984 and 1988. He officiated the longest match in FINA water polo history at the 1986 World Championship, totaling 432 international matches officiated before retiring in 1992.
