She started her career as a model before transitioning to wig making, hair styling, and makeup for various film productions including 'Baksmälla' (1973) and 'Sally och friheten' (1981). Ekman was first married to director Mikael Ekman from 1962 to 1971, with whom she has a daughter, Sanna. She remarried Bo Lundberg in 1997.
