Eva von Gencsy was an influential dancer, choreographer, and teacher, born on March 11, 1924, in Europe and later immigrating to Canada. She performed with notable Canadian dance companies, including the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. A pioneer of ballet-jazz, she founded Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal in 1972 and served as its first artistic director. After departing from the company, she continued to teach and promote her unique dance style worldwide. She passed away in Montreal on April 11, 2013.
