Evangelista Blanco Brenes was a Costa Rican sculptor born on October 26, 1938, in Zarcero, where he passed away on June 27, 2023. He was best known for his topiaries that adorn the main park in Zarcero, Alajuela. In 1964, he began creating artistic tree sculptures using cypress trees. His works include a variety of forms such as animals, fantastical characters, and more. Over the years, these sculptures earned him significant recognition, culminating in the National Award for Traditional Popular Culture in January 2014.
