Evangelos Florakis was a Greek Army officer born on 14 February 1943 in Tzoumerka. He achieved the rank of lieutenant general during his service. After retiring from the Hellenic Army, he took command of the Cypriot National Guard in 2000 and held this position until his untimely death in a helicopter accident on 10 July 2002. His military career was notable, and he left a legacy in the Cypriot defense forces.
