Evgenij Aleksandrovič Vagin was a Soviet literary critic, journalist, dissident, and political prisoner, born on April 12, 1938, in Pskov and passed away on June 29, 2009, in Rome. He graduated from Leningrad State University in 1960 and later worked at the Institute of Russian Literature. Vagin was a founding member of an anti-communist organization and served eight years in prison. After emigrating to Italy in 1976, he worked with Italian and Vatican radio, while maintaining nationalist views and editing a Russian almanac from 1981 to 2000.
